If you’re a fan of Martin Scorsese’s films or just a fan of mafia movies in general, Casino is definitely worth a watch. This movie may be about gambling and crime but it really focuses on the human tragedy of greed and treachery. In this film there are no good guys, only bad ones. And that’s what makes this movie so interesting to watch.
This is one of the most realistic portrayals of the gambling industry on screen ever made. There are tons of details in this movie that are amazingly accurate — from the way the hoods skim money from the slot machines, to the way they skim food service and gift shops. And then there are the scenes of violence and treachery. The torture of a man with a vice, the car bombing of De Niro’s character and Joe Pesci’s death are all shocking in their own way. But, just like his portrayal of mobster Don Rickles in Raging Bull, Scorsese uses these scenes to accurately portray the brutality and ruthlessness of the real world.
Casino is a great movie to watch and will probably always be a classic. The performances by Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are excellent and the rest of the cast is great as well. The cinematography is amazing and the production design is top notch. The sound design is also good and the music is very catchy. The soundtrack is perfect for this kind of movie. The movie is long but never feels dragged out and it’s always engaging.
