Poker is a card game in which players bet against each other and place chips into the pot. The player with the highest hand wins the pot. There are many different poker games, each with a slightly different variation of rules.<\/p>\n
The first round of betting is initiated by the player to the left of the dealer placing a mandatory bet called a blind. This bet creates a fund (pot) that all players must contribute to in order to play. The pot grows with every additional round of betting. The player that has the best poker hand at the end of the final betting phase (showdown) wins the pot with all the bets made on that round.<\/p>\n
After the initial betting phase, each player receives 2 cards face down, which are hidden from other players and known as their hole or pocket cards. A third card is then dealt face up in the center of the table, which is called the flop. There is another round of betting starting with the player to the left of the button.<\/p>\n
There are 10 different classifications of poker hands. Each hand is classified in its rank according to how rare it is, with the higher ranks being more rare. A straight flush is a hand consisting of 5 consecutive cards of the same suit. A full house is a combination of three distinct pairs and a high card, which breaks ties.<\/p>\n
In a poker game, players may call (match the amount of money raised by a previous player), raise, or fold.
