Poker is a card game played between two or more players and is one of the world\u2019s most popular games. While it is primarily a game of chance, it can also require significant skill and psychology.<\/p>\n
The basic objective of the game is to have the best five-card hand, which is determined in a betting phase at the end of each round. A player with the best hand wins the money that was placed as forced bets in the pot. There are a number of mechanisms through which players can strategically misinform each other about the value of their hands, including bluffing.<\/p>\n
Each player is dealt 2 cards face down and 1 card face up, the latter being known as their hole cards. There are then a series of betting rounds, with players placing bets on their hands for various strategic reasons. The final betting phase takes place when players reveal their hands and the player with the highest hand wins all of the chips in the pot.<\/p>\n
Each poker hand consists of three distinct pairs of cards and a fifth card, which is the high card. A pair of kings, for example, is the highest hand and beats any other four-card hand. The high card is used to break ties when more than one hand has the same type of pair. The rank of standard poker hands is determined by their odds (probability).
