Poker is a card game in which players try to form the best hand from the cards they have. Although some variants of the game require more skill than others, most are based on the same basic rules.
In poker, the first step is to decide how much you want to bet in each round of betting. Usually, you start the game with a certain amount of chips and can reduce this amount by betting against other players.
The next step is to decide whether you want to raise your bet, call the raise or fold. Unless all players have folded, the remaining players show their cards in order to see if they have a winning hand.
A hand containing two or more cards of the same rank is called a pair. The higher the value of the pair, the better.
Another type of hand is a three of a kind, also known as a flush or straight. This hand contains three cards of the same suit and two cards of other ranks.
Finally, a hand that does not contain any pairs is referred to as a high card. The higher of the two cards that makes up this hand is the winner.
