Poker is a card game played by a group of players around a table. Each player puts a bet (in chips) into the pot before the cards are dealt. The player with the best 5-card hand wins the pot. Sometimes a player will win the whole pot and other times it will be split between two or more hands.
A small & large blind bet are placed by the players to the left of the dealer before cards are dealt. Each player is then dealt 2 cards face down. Players can choose to call, raise or fold their bets depending on the situation & their hand.
When the betting round is over, the players reveal their cards. This is called the showdown. The player with the best hand wins the round & all bets are collected in the pot.
If a player doesn’t have a good hand, they can try to bluff by raising bets. This will force the other players to think twice about calling their bets & maybe even make them fold!
